Frame Jig
You can now buy these jigs as a kit, which includes the standard jig along with a ‘slimline’ jig. The slimline jig is specifically designed for use on door linings or frames when the door stop and architrave are already in place. It features a shorter fence and a smaller deck to avoid interfering with the door stop. The deck thickness is 15mm. If you’re using a door stop thicker than this, you’ll need to add some shims or remove the door stop to accommodate the jig.

This tool is designed to be clamped or screwed onto a door or frame, resulting in a precise hinge recess. It’s lightweight and user-friendly, made from durable PETG material.

The guide features holes along its side, strategically positioned for cutting hinge mounts into a door frame. These holes allow quick attachment of the template, especially when clamping might be challenging. Once installed, the holes are concealed by the architrave.

Designed to be used with a 12-13mm template router cutter (such as the Trend 1/4" Template Profile Router Cutter 12.7 x 9.5mm shown in the photos). The cutter is not supplied with the template.

We strongly recommend you try the template on a spare piece of wood first to ensure it's compatible with your hinge and cutter. There is always some variation in hinge sizes. If the hinge is a little tight, use a file or some sandpaper to gently remove some material from one of the inner faces of the jig.

1. Secure the Jig: Always make sure the jig is securely clamped or fastened.
2. Router Positioning: Carefully position the router within the jig before turning it on.
3. Safe Removal: Wait for the router to fully stop before removing it from the jig. This prevents damage to the jig.
